In order for ChanServ to help you with the routine functions of managing a channel, you need to register your channel. Below you can find the steps to help you do this, as well as some troubleshooting tips for some of the more common problems you may encounter.

Step by Step to Channel Registration

Usage:

/chanserv register (channel) (password) (description)

NOTE: you do not need to use parentheses.

Breakdown:

Channel
Substitute the channel name, for example #dragonrealm here.
Password
Select a password that will be difficult for others to guess. Stay away from words found in the dictionary. ChanServ recognizes both upper and lower case, so try to utilize this.
For example: PeNkA
NOTE: write down your password! Keep it accessible; you may need it later!
Description
Enter a brief description of your channel here. Basically, you want to tell the people who are going to come to your channel what your channel is there for or what it does. For example, for #dragonrealm:
DALnet Operator Channel

Examples:
/chanserv register #horses GoBBLedy4GOOK A Place For Horse Lovers
/chanserv register #tims_room MY5PLace Tim's Hang Out
/chanserv register #dragonrealm PeNkA DALnet Operator Channel
This last command, when completed successfully, would have ChanServ reply as such:
-ChanServ- Channel #dragonrealm successfully registered under your account: Penka -ChanServ- The password is PeNkA - please write it down for later use. -ChanServ- For more information on ChanServ type: /msg ChanServ help -ChanServ- Change will become permanent at next database sync in 21 minute(s)
The account (nick) and minutes will change depending on who is entry number 2 on your sop list and the time left to database sync.
Extra Notes:
- The first thing you want to do after registering your channel would be to refer to the set command to properly set your channel up with any other functions you may want it to have.
Below you will find a list of the most commonly asked questions people ask when having problems registering their channel.
- "It says my channel is already registered!"
  (Chanserv replies with, Channel #channelname already registered), several things could have happened:
  - It may actually be registered to someone else. To find out if this is the case, type: /chanserv info #channelname
    where you replace the "channelname" with the name of your channel.
    For example: /msg chanserv info #dragonrealm
    If you actually try the above example on IRC, you will see that the founder is MirclMax. Thus, you would need to pick a different channel to register.
  - You may have previously successfully registered your channel without being aware of it. Asking ChanServ for info in the manner stated above will also tell you if YOU are the founder of a channel. If this is the case, then you don't need to worry - the channel already belongs to you.
- ChanServ tells me, "You must be a channel operator on #channelname in order to register it"
  You must be ON the channel you wish to register, and be an operator (have a @ beside your name when you list the people on the channel).
- ChanServ tells me, "You must register your nickname before registering a channel."
